The Duplex Update
When we first moved into the house (which was built in the late 1800’s) we had a renter living in this apartment. At the time it was in very bad shape. The tenant burned a lot of incense and sage that not only made everything smell but also left stains on the walls and ceilings. We had to do a complete gut job with the whole apartment and remove most of the walls and ceilings. We rewired most of the apartment and had to replace the old plumbing, which was corroded. We had to put in a new bathroom and redo the floors, walls and ceilings, throughout the apartment.
The kitchen is the last room left beside some minor things to finish up in the other rooms. During the first half of the renovation we installed upper cabinets to the kitchen (pictured below), as well as a new microwave and stove vent. We installed wood countertops and used the extra leftovers for added counter space next to the stove and sink and for shelving in the pantry. We had it set up the best as we could for our guests. However, the floor was peeling up and gross and the sink was old and dirty and the stove wouldn’t light on its own (you have to use a lighter to get it to turn on). Also, the ceiling light (out of view in the photos) is just a hanging light bulb and we are in need of trim around the floor and doors.
Our current progress: The kitchen floors have been torn up and the new subfloor is in. We have the tiles ready to be laid. We have some volunteers coming over this week to help with painting. We will be getting a new stove and sink this week or next. And though not shown here, we were able to install ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom.
Without you, none of this would have been possible. We thank you for being part of our team and for the opportunity to continue to work on The Duplex Renovation project. We are thankful for all of our supporters and volunteers who have gotten us this far. And we are thankful to The Cause and the Ritzco Grant for allowing us to enter the final stretch of this renovation.
May God bless you and your family during the holiday season.
