Jesus Kitchen at the Rainbow Gathering
In June, we attended the 50th anniversary of the Rainbow Gathering. Wow!! What a beautiful Rainbow Gathering we had this year. It took place near Craig, CO. It has been so long since we had a Rainbow Gathering in the west. The amount of open space and huge main meadow were staggering. The only downside was the near 9,000 ft altitude that made us all feel really old!
We got to see God move this year in people and with those on our team. We were able to set up the Jesus Kitchen right next to the Main Circle, where all the kitchens bring food in the evening to feed the thousands of people who show up, and form big circles one within another. We made and served amazing meals to about 500 people a day, thanks to the help of our team!
We also set up foot washing while there and were able to touch the hearts of all those who participated. We had multiple workshops from listening-prayer –where we ask God to give us a picture or word for the person we are praying for; we then sit silently for a few minutes and then share what we feel the Lord gave us to share– to spoon carving. People had fun and felt blessed to be part of and learn how to draw closer to Jesus. Ben was able to connect with elders (people who have been going to Gatherings for a very long time) that he has known for years, and pray with them. One particular person named Glow who attended the first Gathering 50 years ago was having heart problems. Ben prayed for him and he was able to receive it and feel blessed.
The last Sunday of the Rainbow Gathering we had a communion service where we had a few people share their testimonies, and for some this was the highlight of the Gathering. In the end, I would say that this was one of the hardest Gatherings, but it all ended well and God was with us and present through it all.
